Key structural observations
- Three verses of oaths precede an answer strengthened by laqad: the creation of the human being in the finest constitution (1–4).
- Khalaqnā and radadnāhu keep Allah as subject. Aḥsan taqwīm and asfala sāfilīn give the contrast its full extent (4–5).
- Illā opens the exception of faith and righteous deeds, followed by lasting reward. Action responds to an existence already received (6).
- Amīn and āmanū share a root, from the secure city to people who believe. Lexical closeness does not conflate their referents (3, 6).
- Baʿdu connects the question of dīn to what precedes. The final question names Allah and completes the aḥsan-asfal-aḥkam movement under His judgement (4–8).
