Surah Al Imran: When the Days Turn, Stability Appears

Al Imran reframes the gaze: the turning days do not create the fracture – they expose it. The surah teaches how to hold the habl Allah (the rope of God) when the world shifts, how to read trial as an inner sorting, and how to mend the cracks before they become tears.

The Phrase That Reversed the Gaze


One sometimes sees hearts perfectly tranquil in ease – then a single trial arrives, and fractures appear as though they had just been born in that instant. The temptation is to choose the most comfortable explanation: the circumstances created the crack. The days turned, and one reads instability as a failure of management, or a failure of faith.

Then Al Imran shifts the angle: movement does not necessarily manufacture the fracture – it brings it to light.

﴿وَتِلْكَ الْأَيَّامُ نُدَاوِلُهَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ﴾

And these days, We alternate them among the people. (3:140)

As if the surah were saying: do not try to imprison the days. Seek instead the thread of stability. Alternation is not the sculptor of the flaw: it is often its revealer.


What One Thought the Surah Was About


Al Imran is a Medinan surah. It opens with the disconnected letters:

﴿الم﴾

Alif-Lam-Mim.

And it is often paired with Al-Baqara under the name the two luminous ones: two surahs that do not merely speak to the intellect but illuminate the trajectory.

What one had not yet grasped is that Al Imran is not only a narrative, nor a refutation, nor a chronicle of events: it is an architecture of reading. It teaches how to read: the text, disagreement, trial, victory, failure – without losing oneself in the noise of the moment.


The Pillar of Light


The surah begins by planting an immovable axis in the middle of a shifting world:

﴿اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ﴾

God: there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining who sustains all things. (2:255)

Before counting external changes, fix the gaze on the One who does not change.

And then, everything that seemed stable returns to its true nature: power is gained and lost, situations rise and fall, cycles turn. To attach oneself to what turns is to turn with it. To attach oneself to al-Hayy al-Qayyum (the Ever-Living who sustains all) is to remain upright while life pivots.

Stability begins there: not in the absence of movement, but in the solidity of the axis.


A Book That Sorts the Interior


Al Imran follows immediately by placing Revelation at the centre:

﴿نَزَّلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ بِالْحَقِّ مُصَدِّقًا لِمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ﴾

He sent down upon you the Book in truth, confirming what came before it.

And the surah also names the role of discernment:

﴿وَأَنْزَلَ الْفُرْقَانَ﴾

And He sent down the Criterion.

The furqan (discernment) is not merely a lamp for understanding information: it is a light that separates within the breast what had been mixed. Masks do not last long before a light that reveals intentions.

From there, a question forms: when one encounters disagreement, tension, or trial – does one read it as a sign that guides, or as an excuse behind which to hide?


The First Test: Clear and Ambiguous


The surah then places one before a test of reading:

﴿هُوَ الَّذِي أَنْزَلَ عَلَيْكَ الْكِتَابَ مِنْهُ آيَاتٌ مُحْكَمَاتٌ هُنَّ أُمُّ الْكِتَابِ وَأُخَرُ مُتَشَابِهَاتٌ﴾

It is He who sent down upon you the Book: in it are verses that are clear – the foundation of the Book – and others that are ambiguous.

Then the diagnosis falls:

﴿فَأَمَّا الَّذِينَ فِي قُلُوبِهِمْ زَيْغٌ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ مَا تَشَابَهَ مِنْهُ ابْتِغَاءَ الْفِتْنَةِ وَابْتِغَاءَ تَأْوِيلِهِ﴾

As for those in whose hearts is deviation: they follow what is ambiguous of it, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation to suit themselves.

The ambiguous is not merely an intellectual difficulty. It can become a refuge for a heart that wants to keep the upper hand, even where the surah teaches it to release its grip.

Zaygh (deviation) begins as a slight inclination of the heart, a micro-torsion of the inner mirror: one ends by seeing what one loves, instead of seeing what is true.


The Etiquette of the Stable: Everything Comes From the Lord


On the other side, the surah offers a posture, almost a gesture:

﴿وَالرَّاسِخُونَ فِي الْعِلْمِ يَقُولُونَ آمَنَّا بِهِ كُلٌّ مِنْ عِنْدِ رَبِّنَا﴾

As for those firmly rooted in knowledge, they say: We believe in it; all of it is from our Lord.

This is a shift: from chasing details that give the impression of control, to beholding the Source. From the desire to possess meaning to the desire to remain on the axis.

And the surah installs a guardrail in the form of a prayer:

﴿رَبَّنَا لَا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا﴾

Our Lord, do not let our hearts deviate after You have guided us.

The crack begins small. If it does not enter the light, it will widen – and when the days turn, it will appear in full view.


The Dust of Desire: When the Heart Has Two Directions


The surah does not leave the reading floating. It connects deviation to something very concrete:

﴿زُيِّنَ لِلنَّاسِ حُبُّ الشَّهَوَاتِ﴾

Beautified for people is the love of desires…

Desire is not merely a temptation – it is a filter that colours reading. It happens that the heart has two directions: the immediate life and the ultimate abode. And when it has two directions, it divides within before it ever divides with anyone.

The surah resets the axis:

﴿وَاللَّهُ عِنْدَهُ حُسْنُ الْمَآبِ﴾

And with God is the best return.

The difference is there: some read the world as a destination. Others read it as a passage. And the reading of the text follows the reading of the world.


When Ego Tints Knowledge


Al Imran then names a brutal cause of division: rivalry, pride, the desire to dominate – even wearing religious vocabulary.

﴿وَمَا اخْتَلَفَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ إِلَّا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَهُمُ الْعِلْمُ بَغْيًا بَيْنَهُمْ﴾

Those who were given the Book did not diverge except after knowledge had come to them, out of rivalry among themselves.

And the surah exposes a scene that unmasks the interior:

﴿يُدْعَوْنَ إِلَى كِتَابِ اللَّهِ لِيَحْكُمَ بَيْنَهُمْ ثُمَّ يَتَوَلَّى فَرِيقٌ مِنْهُمْ وَهُمْ مُعْرِضُونَ﴾

They are called to the Book of God that it may judge between them, then a party of them turns away, declining.

This is not a lack of clarity. It is a refusal to be judged. The real problem is not the absence of light, but the attempt to angle the mirror in a position that flatters.


The Grand Theatre of Reversal: The Power to Turn


The surah then widens the stage: reversals are not isolated accidents. They are under sovereignty.

﴿قُلِ اللَّهُمَّ مَالِكَ الْمُلْكِ تُؤْتِي الْمُلْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ وَتَنْزِعُ الْمُلْكَ مِمَّنْ تَشَاءُ﴾

Say: O God, Master of sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty from whom You will… (3:26)

﴿تُولِجُ اللَّيْلَ فِي النَّهَارِ وَتُولِجُ النَّهَارَ فِي اللَّيْلِ﴾

You cause the night to enter the day and You cause the day to enter the night…

﴿وَتُخْرِجُ الْحَيَّ مِنَ الْمَيِّتِ وَتُخْرِجُ الْمَيِّتَ مِنَ الْحَيِّ﴾

You bring the living from the dead and You bring the dead from the living…

﴿وَتَرْزُقُ مَنْ تَشَاءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ﴾

And You provide for whom You will without account.

All of this reframes the gaze: nothing turns on its own. Nothing holds by itself. And the most refined form of going astray is to follow what turns instead of following the One who turns it.

The world is made of differences (night/day, life/death, giving/taking), and yet it does not tear: because it does not compete over the affair. Night does not claim eternity. Day does not claim possession. Each obeys a single Master.

There is a disagreement that weaves – and a disagreement that tears. The first submits to the axis. The second fights for the axis.


The Thread of True Love: Obedience as Proof


Then the surah lays down a criterion that leaves no room for performance:

﴿قُلْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ اللَّهَ فَاتَّبِعُونِي يُحْبِبْكُمُ اللَّهُ﴾

Say: if you love God, then follow me, and God will love you…

This is the reading thread: either one holds it, and reads difference as a lesson that aligns – even when truth contradicts interest. Or one releases it, and becomes the child of rotations: changing course at every advantage, and calling that circumstances.

Love that never becomes following remains a beautiful phrase. Following becomes the hand that does not release when the days turn.


The Thread of Election: A Chain That Crosses Time


Al Imran then announces that election is neither a fashion nor a coincidence: it is a historical thread under divine conduct.

﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَىٰ آدَمَ وَنُوحًا وَآلَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَآلَ عِمْرَانَ عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ﴾

God chose Adam, Nuh, the family of Ibrahim, and the family of Imran above all peoples.

﴿ذُرِّيَّةً بَعْضُهَا مِنْ بَعْضٍ﴾

Descendants, some of them from others.

This is no longer mere genealogical information but a fabric: a thread linking the epochs, a continuity that does not depend on human moods.

And when the surah recalls absolute sovereignty:

﴿اللَّهُ يَفْعَلُ مَا يَشَاءُ﴾

God does what He wills.

This thread does not follow habits, nor forecasts, nor social norms. It follows the will of God.


The Engineering of Surprise: When God Defies Habit


The surah brings election into a household, and shows a pedagogy: God educates the heart not to worship habit.

In the narrative, unexpected provision appears as a shock to human logic:

﴿كُلَّمَا دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا زَكَرِيَّا الْمِحْرَابَ وَجَدَ عِنْدَهَا رِزْقًا قَالَتْ هُوَ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَرْزُقُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ بِغَيْرِ حِسَابٍ﴾

Whenever Zakariyya entered upon her in the sanctuary, he found provision with her. She said: It is from God. God provides for whom He wills without account.

From there, the logic of the possible is rewritten: Yahya comes despite age, Maryam is chosen, Isa comes without a father. This is not spectacle: it is an education of sight. The miracle serves to shatter the idolatry of it has always been this way.

And when Maryam is named in her purification:

﴿إِنَّ اللَّهَ اصْطَفَاكِ وَطَهَّرَكِ وَاصْطَفَاكِ عَلَىٰ نِسَاءِ الْعَالَمِينَ﴾

God has chosen you, purified you, and chosen you above the women of all peoples.

Stability does not mean that stories resemble each other. Stability means that the direction remains one, even when the details change.


A Sign, Not an Escape: By the Permission of God


The narrative of Isa insists on a bolt: do not divinise the scene, do not worship the form, do not transform the sign into a pretext.

﴿وَرَسُولًا إِلَىٰ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ أَنِّي أَخْلُقُ لَكُمْ مِنَ الطِّينِ كَهَيْئَةِ الطَّيْرِ فَأَنْفُخُ فِيهِ فَيَكُونُ طَيْرًا بِإِذْنِ اللَّهِ﴾

As a messenger to the Children of Israel: I fashion for you from clay the form of a bird, then I breathe into it and it becomes a bird, by the permission of God…

The by the permission of God returns like a barrier: the event must not steal the place of the Source.

And the response of the disciples lays the heart bare:

﴿فَاشْهَدْ بِأَنَّا مُسْلِمُونَ﴾

Bear witness that we are submitted to God.

Submission here is an inner suture: it closes the door to manipulation. Some read the sign and return to God. Others read the sign and seek an exit from obedience.


Continuity Does Not Break: Even Under Hostility


When hostility mounts, the surah does not leave the narrative in the hands of human schemes. It returns it to the divine hand:

﴿إِذْ قَالَ اللَّهُ يَا عِيسَىٰ إِنِّي مُتَوَفِّيكَ وَرَافِعُكَ إِلَيَّ وَمُطَهِّرُكَ مِنَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا﴾

O Isa, I shall take you, raise you to Me, and purify you from those who disbelieved…

And it fixes the permanence of following:

﴿وَجَاعِلُ الَّذِينَ اتَّبَعُوكَ فَوْقَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ﴾

And I shall place those who followed you above those who disbelieved until the Day of Resurrection.

Then it closes the false exception with a general law:

﴿إِنَّ مَثَلَ عِيسَىٰ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ كَمَثَلِ آدَمَ خَلَقَهُ مِنْ تُرَابٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ كُنْ فَيَكُونُ﴾

The likeness of Isa before God is as the likeness of Adam: He created him from dust, then said to him Be, and he was.

The thread does not stop at the noise of debates. Election does not fall under shouts. Stability is not the absence of opposition: it is the continuity of the axis.


The Tipping Point: Truth Without Cosmetics


When discussions become a sport, Al Imran proposes a gesture that removes masks:

﴿فَمَنْ حَاجَّكَ فِيهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا جَاءَكَ مِنَ الْعِلْمِ فَقُلْ تَعَالَوْا نَدْعُ أَبْنَاءَنَا وَأَبْنَاءَكُمْ ثُمَّ نَبْتَهِلْ فَنَجْعَلْ لَعْنَتَ اللَّهِ عَلَى الْكَاذِبِينَ﴾

Whoever disputes with you concerning him after the knowledge that has come to you, say: Come, let us call our sons and your sons… then let us invoke and place the curse of God upon the liars.

Sometimes the problem is not a lack of argument. It is an excess of ego seeking an exit. Truth does not always need a longer debate; it needs a more honest heart.


A Common Word: Freeing the Axis From Labels


Then the surah shifts the discussion toward a liberating centre:

﴿قُلْ يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ تَعَالَوْا إِلَىٰ كَلِمَةٍ سَوَاءٍ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَكُمْ أَلَّا نَعْبُدَ إِلَّا اللَّهَ﴾

Say: O People of the Book, come to a word common between us and you – that we worship none but God…

Then it frees Ibrahim from the hands of appropriation:

﴿مَا كَانَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ يَهُودِيًّا وَلَا نَصْرَانِيًّا وَلَٰكِنْ كَانَ حَنِيفًا مُسْلِمًا﴾

Ibrahim was neither a Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, submitted to God.

Before fighting over colours, save the compass. The essence is not a brand to possess – it is a direction to follow.


The Principle of Chain: Refusing the Illusion of Rupture


The surah exposes a mechanism: some wish to break the continuity, as if each message could be isolated, captured, privatised. So it speaks of a covenant:

﴿وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ النَّبِيِّينَ لَتُؤْمِنُنَّ بِهِ وَلَتَنْصُرُنَّهُ﴾

When God took the covenant of the prophets: you shall believe in him and support him.

Then it closes the door to escape:

﴿وَمَنْ يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا فَلَنْ يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ﴾

Whoever seeks a religion other than submission to God, it will never be accepted from him.

The thread has been one since the beginning: surrendering to God. Epochs change, languages change, situations change – but the axis does not change.


Turning Origin Into Direction: The Way of Ibrahim as a Heading


After freeing the axis from labels, Al Imran returns it to practice:

﴿قُلْ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ فَاتَّبِعُوا مِلَّةَ إِبْرَاهِيمَ حَنِيفًا﴾

Say: God has spoken the truth. Follow therefore the way of Ibrahim, inclining toward truth.

Then it gives a shared compass, a clarity of qibla that returns to the concrete:

﴿إِنَّ أَوَّلَ بَيْتٍ وُضِعَ لِلنَّاسِ لَلَّذِي بِبَكَّةَ مُبَارَكًا وَهُدًى لِلْعَالَمِينَ﴾

The first sanctuary established for humankind is the one at Bakka: blessed and a guidance for all peoples.

﴿وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا﴾

And God has a right upon people: the pilgrimage to the House, for whoever is able to find a way.

Truth is not a floating slogan: it materialises in direction, in act, in movement. The axis is protected through the concrete.


Holding the Rope Together


And there, the surah turns to the interior of the community:

﴿وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِحَبْلِ اللَّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلَا تَفَرَّقُوا﴾

Hold firmly, all together, to the rope of God, and do not divide. (3:103)

The materiality of the rope is palpable: to release it is to fall with the wave. To hold it is to remain upright even when everything shifts.

Unity is not decor. It is work. And if this work is not done, the cracks grow in the shadow – then the days turn, and they appear.


The Best Community Is Not a Diploma: It Is a Mission


Al Imran does not allow value to be transformed into a medal:

﴿كُنْتُمْ خَيْرَ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرِجَتْ لِلنَّاسِ تَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَتَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنْكَرِ وَتُؤْمِنُونَ بِاللَّهِ﴾

You are the best community brought forth for humankind: you enjoin what is right, you forbid what is wrong, and you believe in God.

Superiority here is a service rendered to people, not a label possessed. It holds through a moral suture: promoting good, restraining evil, keeping the axis. If this suture loosens, unity becomes facade – and the alternation of days will unveil the facade.


Guarding the Windows: Vigilance Before the Cold


The surah also gives a measure for protecting the interior:

﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَتَّخِذُوا بِطَانَةً مِنْ دُونِكُمْ لَا يَأْلُونَكُمْ خَبَالًا﴾

O you who believe, do not take as intimate associates those outside yourselves: they would spare you no ruin.

This is a rule of windows: the heart has points of access. If sensitive zones are opened without discernment, a wind enters that loosens the grip on the rope – often without sound, until the day trial arrives and the hand discovers it was already weak.


The Trial of Wealth: Seeking Artificial Stability


Al Imran touches a point where many seek control:

﴿يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا لَا تَأْكُلُوا الرِّبَا أَضْعَافًا مُضَاعَفَةً﴾

O you who believe, do not consume usury, multiplied manifold.

And in the same surah, it sets down a rule that heals the hand:

﴿لَنْ تَنَالُوا الْبِرَّ حَتَّىٰ تُنْفِقُوا مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ﴾

You will never attain righteousness until you spend of what you love.

The connection is visible: usury can be an attempt to manufacture stability through domination (making increase depend on oneself), while spending what one loves is a liberation (so that the heart is not held captive by what it holds). The surah does not merely say forbidden. It says: here is where the crack begins – when one tries to possess security, one loses stability.


The Mirror of Badr and Uhud: The Crack Reveals Itself in the Turn


Al Imran first recalls that a small number can carry a great truth:

﴿قَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ آيَةٌ فِي فِئَتَيْنِ الْتَقَتَا﴾

There was a sign for you in two groups that met…

And it also recalls:

﴿وَلَقَدْ نَصَرَكُمُ اللَّهُ بِبَدْرٍ وَأَنْتُمْ أَذِلَّةٌ﴾

God gave you victory at Badr while you were weak.

Then comes Uhud, and the surah shows that defeat often begins before the opposing sword: it begins when the inner thread snaps.

﴿حَتَّىٰ إِذَا فَشِلْتُمْ وَتَنَازَعْتُمْ فِي الْأَمْرِ وَعَصَيْتُمْ﴾

Until you lost courage, disputed about the affair, and disobeyed…

And the phrase that exposes the hidden crack:

﴿مِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُرِيدُ الدُّنْيَا وَمِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُرِيدُ الْآخِرَةَ﴾

Among you were those who desired the world, and among you were those who desired the Hereafter.

Two directions in the same rank: the division did not begin between bodies – it began in intentions.

And when the reflex of justification surfaces:

﴿أَوَلَمَّا أَصَابَتْكُمْ مُصِيبَةٌ قُلْتُمْ أَنَّىٰ هَٰذَا قُلْ هُوَ مِنْ عِنْدِ أَنْفُسِكُمْ﴾

When a disaster struck you, you said: How is this? Say: It is from yourselves.

The alternation of days does not create the flaw in a single second. It reveals what was already working beneath the surface.


The Affair Does Not Belong to Me: The End of the Fantasy of Control


At the heart of the emotional storm, the surah severs the illusion of ownership:

﴿لَيْسَ لَكَ مِنَ الْأَمْرِ شَيْءٌ﴾

You have no part in the affair.

And it repeats, to drive the point home:

﴿قُلْ إِنَّ الْأَمْرَ كُلَّهُ لِلَّهِ﴾

Say: the affair, all of it, belongs to God.

Then the phrase about the turning days regains a deeper resonance:

﴿وَتِلْكَ الْأَيَّامُ نُدَاوِلُهَا بَيْنَ النَّاسِ﴾

And these days, We alternate them among the people.

This movement is not there to break, but to unveil, purify, and sort. It returns the truth about the self: does the axis hold, or does comfort hold?


The Limits of the Visible: The Veil of the Future as Mercy


The surah sets a limit that liberates:

﴿وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُطْلِعَكُمْ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ﴾

God would not disclose to you the unseen.

This is a compassion: if one saw everything, one would collapse before the hour. If one knew every ending, one would always choose the easiest. The veil over the future keeps the heart in a state of incompleteness that nourishes reliance on God.

Seeking stability through knowing everything is an impossible dream. Seeking stability through entrusting oneself to the One who knows is a practicable path.


The Sutures: Mending the Crack Instead of Denying It


Al Imran teaches neither to excuse the fracture nor to ignore it: it teaches how to stitch it.

﴿فَاعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَاسْتَغْفِرْ لَهُمْ وَشَاوِرْهُمْ فِي الْأَمْرِ فَإِذَا عَزَمْتَ فَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى اللَّهِ﴾

Forgive them, seek forgiveness for them, consult them in the affair; then, when you have resolved, place your trust in God.

This is a method of repair: forgiveness extinguishes the ember of reproach, seeking forgiveness breaks moral pride, consultation prevents the confiscation of the affair, and trust in God replaces the axis where it belongs.

The surah compels one to prefer stitching over commentary.


The Dead Who Are Not Dead: Stability Beyond the Final Turn


Then Al Imran opens another window: even death – the greatest visible reversal – is not a rupture for the one who holds the axis.

﴿وَلَا تَحْسَبَنَّ الَّذِينَ قُتِلُوا فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ أَمْوَاتًا بَلْ أَحْيَاءٌ عِنْدَ رَبِّهِمْ يُرْزَقُونَ﴾

Do not think of those slain in the cause of God as dead: they are alive with their Lord, provided for. (3:169)

﴿فَرِحِينَ بِمَا آتَاهُمُ اللَّهُ مِنْ فَضْلِهِ﴾

Rejoicing in what God has granted them of His bounty…

Returning to the beginning: by holding fast to al-Hayy al-Qayyum, even the ultimate reversal does not tear one from stability. What remains is not the stability of forms, but the stability of the bond.


When Alternation Is Read With Arrogance: The Reading That Disfigures


The surah also shows how some read reversals with insolence, as if wealth proved superiority.

﴿لَقَدْ سَمِعَ اللَّهُ قَوْلَ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ فَقِيرٌ وَنَحْنُ أَغْنِيَاءُ﴾

God has heard the words of those who said: God is poor and we are rich.

And how others transform faith into manufactured conditions:

﴿لَنْ نُؤْمِنَ لِرَسُولٍ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَنَا بِقُرْبَانٍ تَأْكُلُهُ النَّارُ﴾

We will not believe a messenger until he brings us an offering consumed by fire.

It is not always evidence that is lacking. It is the heart that wants a pretext.

In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of the night and the day, there are signs for people of understanding. (3:190)

O you who believe, endure, outdo in endurance, stand firm, and be conscious of God, so that you may succeed.

To stand firm is to guard the doors of the heart, the cracks, the angles of reading. And consciousness of God is to keep the vertical axis that gives stability to everything else.
