Key structural observations
- Idhā opens the Day: the earth is shaken, then becomes the subject of bringing out its burdens. The human being responds with a question of astonishment (1–3).
- The earth will tell its news because the Lord inspired it. Mā lahā and awḥā lahā connect the human question with the event’s divine source (3–5).
- Two occurrences of yawmaʾidhin open the earth’s speech and people’s coming forth in scattered groups. Li-yuraw gives the passive purpose: their deeds will be shown to them (4, 6).
- Aʿmālahum becomes man yaʿmal; li-yuraw becomes yarahu. People’s collective deeds lead to each person’s act and what they will see (6–8).
- Athqāl and mithqāl connect the earth’s burdens to the minute measure without conflating their objects. The two conclusions give equal attention to small good and small evil (2, 7–8).
