Surah 114

An-Nās

6 verses · Meccan

Key structural observations
  • The surah is structured around an interior topography: the ṣadr is a threshold, the qalb the sanctum, and the whisper works by occupying the first in order to reach the second.
  • Its triple invocation — Rabb, Malik, Ilāh — reinstalls the centre before naming the threat, so that the parasite is dethroned by reordered allegiance rather than by panic.
  • The surah's key reversal is that not every thought that sounds like 'me' is truly mine; refuge begins when the interior is illuminated enough to distinguish passing whisper from rightful self.
